Series Storyline/ Plot

The steamer Kerberos is traveling from England to New York City on October 19, 1899. On the same journey, its sister ship Prometheus vanished without a trace four months earlier. When third-class traveler Krester comes in, pleading for a doctor, Maura and many other first-class travelers on Kerberos are in the dining area. Franz kicks Krester out, but Maura follows Krester down into third class and untangles Tove’s knotted umbilical cord. Concerns about closeness plague Lucien and Clémence. Maura experiences odd visions. She runs across the Kerberos’s captain, Eyk, who cautions her to abide by the ship’s regulations. A communication containing merely a set of coordinates was received, likely from Prometheus. Many passengers were upset by Eyk’s decision to alter the Kerberos’ path to those coordinates.

The Prometheus, which looks to have been abandoned, is seen by Kerberos. Along with Maura, Ramiro, Olek, and Jérôme, Eyk boards the Prometheus. Kester piques angel’s attention. The Kerberos is boarded by an enigmatic figure who enters the space next to Maura’s. Eyk discovers a bizarre hairband on Prometheus and learns that the telegraph has been destroyed. Scarab beetle leads Maura to a cupboard, which she opens to discover a boy giving her a black tetrahedron object. The shipping business sends Eyk a telegram that just contains the two words “Sink ship.” The boy, the sole individual found on Prometheus, is housed in Maura’s room. She finds a ring in his possession and a mark behind his left ear that looks like an upside-down triangle with a horizontal line.

Daniel is the name the enigmatic man uses to address Maura. Kester receives a cigarette tin from Angel. A Legion of Honor medal was left in the room of Lucien and Clémence by Jérôme. One of Eyk’s daughters wears the same hairband as Prometheus, and he experiences hallucinations of his wife and daughters, who perished in a home fire a few years earlier. When he awakens, a shaft has appeared in his bedroom beneath the bed.
